About The Position

The Environmental Data Manager is responsible for the management of the Taranaki Regional Council’s Environmental Data team, hydrology services and environmental data network, as well as the effective and timely delivery of all associated work programmes to support and inform Council’s science monitoring and reporting programmes. This role also works closely with the Rivers Team to oversee delivery of emergency management flood warning technical support. In addition, the position leads and grows a team of 9 direct reports by providing vision and purpose, setting expectations and work programmes that are aligned with the Taranaki Regional Council’s strategic direction.

Requirements

  • A post-graduate qualification in environmental science, preferably an MSc in hydrology, earth sciences or engineering
  • At least 10 years’ experience in hydrology, environmental monitoring and reporting, and data management preferably in a local government environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of National Environmental Monitoring Standards and other relevant monitoring procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Resource Management Act 1991, national policy statements, regulations and standards, and other relevant legislation as they pertain to environmental data management and reporting
  • Proactive and effective leadership, motivational and supervisory skills
  • Ability to think strategically and take a council-wide perspective, understanding the impacts of activities and programmes on the wider Taranaki Regional Council and community.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a rapport and relationships with local iwi/hapū
