About The Position

As Equinox Gold continues to grow, we are seeking an Environmental Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will work under the supervision of the Environmental Manager or Environmental Superintendent to support environmental compliance and permitting activities. Responsibilities include helping ensure compliance with all mine permits, seeking and maintaining permits for current and future operations, coordinating and managing environmental consultants, and engaging with government agencies as needed. You will also provide compliance training and field support, including conducting and coordinating environmental sampling, participating in inspections with operations, and communicating regulatory and operating permit requirements. This role will help maintain existing permits and support the permitting process for future mine expansions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in environmental work, preferably in a coordinator or similar role.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the mining industry or a related industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with EMS, Datamine Discover 3D, ArcGIS, or other GIS software.
  • Strong computer skills, including intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong critical, strategic, and logical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with operations, consultants, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform field work, including walking long distances over uneven terrain, climbing stairs, and working in extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • Experience with environmental permitting, compliance, and regulatory requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire site-specific knowledge of applicable environmental regulations.
  • Assist in regulatory reporting and compliance activities (air, water, land, wildlife, and waste).
  • Coordinate environmental sampling, testing, and analysis, working with staff and/or consultants.
  • Assist in obtaining and maintaining required and appropriate certifications (e.g., EPA Method 9, DOT HAZMAT, CN Code, ISO 14001, and other necessary programs).
  • Assist in supporting monitoring and mitigation plans through Agency requirements, including but not limited to requirements from BLM, USFWS, SHPO, USACE, NDOW, NDEP, and others.
  • Maintain environmental records.
  • Assist in investigating and reporting environmental incidents and assist with mitigation plans.
  • Assist with Cyanide Code certification and ISO 14001.
  • Perform safety and environmental audits.
  • On-call rotations.
  • Assist in permitting minor and major federal actions with BLM (DNAs, EAs, SEISs), USFWS, USACE, EPA, or other as needed.
  • Assist in permitting minor and major state actions with NDEP and Bureaus, NDWR, or other as needed.
