About The Position

Works under the general direction of the Director of Public Works. Provides administrative and technical direction necessary for the proper guidance of Environmental Administration including sewer fee billing; storm water pollution abatement; and environmental safety, design, and construction. Demonstrates exceptional knowledge of environmental engineering principles. Demonstrates exceptional knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws regulating pollution control, wastewater treatment and sanitary sewer systems and provides overall guidance to subordinates to assure compliance with applicable laws. Negotiates and administers engineering design contracts with private consulting firms. Ensures sewer fee billing and collection is completed in a timely manner; ensures EPA storm water permit requirements are met; oversees construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations; and oversees the management of a large CIP budget. Develops and reviews staffing requirements to maintain an efficient and effective operation; and hires, trains, directs, and evaluates work performance and disciplines staff members.

Requirements

  • Exceptional knowledge of environmental engineering principles.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws regulating pollution control, wastewater treatment, and sanitary sewer systems.
  • Ability to provide overall guidance to subordinates to assure compliance with applicable laws.
  • Experience in negotiating and administering engineering design contracts with private consulting firms.
