About The Position

At WM, early career talent is a vital part of our present. WM's Summer Internship Program is a 12-week paid experience designed to bridge classroom learning with real-world application. Interns are empowered from day one to contribute meaningfully, explore new areas of the business, and grow their professional skillsets in a supportive, purpose-driven environment. As a WM Intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals on real projects that make an impact for WM, gaining real-world experience in key aspects of the business, including a meaningful project you'll own and present to senior leaders. The program also includes skill-building workshops, executive roundtables, and community building with fellow interns. Upon completion, interns will have meaningful resume experience, a strong network, and a clear path to future opportunities at WM. This internship is part of the ELMG crew, a team known for its diversity, innovative thinking, collaborative spirit, and commitment to sustainability. Interns will explore environmental operations, data analytics, and project optimization, learning how things work behind the scenes and helping WM drive purpose. The intern will assist District Managers and Landfill Operations Managers on various projects.

Requirements

  • Interns must have a high school diploma or GED (accredited) and be pursuing or have recently completed a bachelor’s degree (accredited) in a field of study relevant to the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship or work experience in environmental science, engineering, or waste management.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to work in both office and field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Uses problem solving skills, determines problems, and understand fundamental parts of the problem.
  • Conducts analysis as directed and prepares and delivers insights and recommendations based on analysis.
  • Synthesizes findings and draws conclusions from analyses and makes oral/written recommendations to supervisor and/or manager.
  • Executes tasks directly related to functional projects and/or process improvements.
  • Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.
  • Expected to do up to 20% of travel in relation to your work.
