About The Position

WSP is seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Specialist to provide ongoing environmental compliance support for two industrial manufacturing facilities located in Lincoln and Norfolk, Nebraska. The successful candidate will serve as the primary local environmental resource, conducting routine site visits, supporting compliance programs, maintaining regulatory documentation, identifying compliance risks, and assisting facility personnel with implementation of environmental management requirements. The position is ideal for an experienced environmental professional seeking flexible, part-time employment while leveraging extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and industrial facility operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience working as an environmental scientist and completing environmental surveys, fieldwork, habitat and impact assessments, and/or construction monitoring.
  • Demonstrated experience with: Air quality compliance and Title V permits, Hazardous waste and RCRA regulations, Stormwater and wastewater compliance, SPCC and SWPPP programs, Environmental reporting requirements, Regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting multiple industrial manufacturing facilities.
  • ISO 14001 implementation or audit experience.
  • EPA Method 9 certification or previous certification.
  • Experience with EPA electronic reporting systems and state environmental databases.
  • Familiarity with Nebraska environmental regulations and reporting programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine weekly site visits at Lincoln and Norfolk manufacturing facilities.
  • Perform environmental compliance inspections and document findings, observations, and corrective actions.
  • Support facility compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Assist with management and implementation of: Title V Air Permit programs, Air emissions tracking and reporting, NPDES and stormwater compliance requirements, SPCC Plan implementation and maintenance, SWPPP inspections and documentation, Hazardous waste and RCRA compliance programs, Chemical management programs, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Review environmental records for completeness and compliance.
  • Support preparation of annual, quarterly, and monthly regulatory reports.
  • Maintain compliance calendars and permit tracking systems.
  • Assist with regulatory agency inspections, audits, and information requests.
  • Prepare site visit summaries and compliance status reports.
  • Track corrective actions and support closure of identified compliance issues.
  • Coordinate with WSP subject matter experts and client environmental personnel as needed.
  • Provide routine office support, compliance guidance, and technical assistance between site visits.
  • Support environmental compliance gap assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.
