About The Position

The LYCRA Company is seeking an Environmental Compliance Leader for its manufacturing and R&D site in Waynesboro, VA. This role is crucial for implementing and maintaining compliance with all environmental programs. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, an advocate for environmental excellence, and committed to sustainable production as a key business strategy. The company is a leader in the Apparel industry, known for its innovative fiber and fabric solutions like LYCRA®, COOLMAX®, THERMOLITE®, SUPPLEX®, and TACTEL®.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science/Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in environmental compliance (Air, Wastewater, and Waste permitting/management) in an industrial or consulting environment, or commensurate experience such as relevant internships, co-ops, or closely related roles.
  • Demonstrated excellence in ethics, compliance, and EH&S performance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that produce outstanding results.
  • Motivated and effective contributor in a collaborative, diverse team environment.
  • Creative, entrepreneurial spirit that is driven by a passion for innovation and focused by business goals.
  • Effective problem solver with strong observation and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in communicating verbally and in writing with environmental regulatory agencies.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 5 years of experience in environmental compliance (Air, Wastewater, and Waste permitting/management) in an industrial or consulting environment.
  • Experience with preparing Facility Environmental Module (FEM) for sustainable Apparel Coalition’s Higg index.
  • Hold a VA Class II wastewater license or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure regulatory applications, reports, and plans are accurate, timely, and complete (e.g., monthly DMRs, Title V Annual and Semi-annual reports, Annual Emissions Inventory, Quarterly stack testing, SARA311/312/313 reporting, Biennial Hazardous waste reporting, SPCC, SWPP, RMP plans).
  • Interact with state and federal environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Manage environmental incidents by conducting investigations, creating action items, and overseeing their completion.
  • Identify and address emerging environmental issues to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborate with site sustainability leaders to develop and maintain metrics and sustainability goals for air, wastewater, and waste programs.
  • Interface with the site wastewater treatment plant operations and provide guidance on maintenance issues.
  • Support co-workers in enhancing their understanding of environmental requirements.
  • Execute responsibilities with excellence in EHS and compliance.
