About The Position

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking an Environmental Compliance Lead at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday with a compress work schedule option. Hudbay Minerals Inc. is a vertically integrated mining company that operates mines, concentrators, and metal production facilities. Requirements

  • Possess a degree in Environment Science, Environmental Engineering, Geoscience or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years mining experience in BC in Environmental role
  • Environmental monitoring field experience
  • Direct experience with Engagement Tracking software, Environmental Databases such as MonitorPro and LIMS programs such as DATS
  • P.Eng., P.Geo., RP Bio, P.Ag, or EP
  • understanding of the BC Mines Act, the BC Health, Safety and Reclamation Code, and the BC Environmental Management Act (EMA)
  • Detailed understanding of the Federal Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER) and BC Water Quality Guidelines
  • Understanding of the Permitting and licensing processes for mines in BC and Canada
  • Understanding of general environmental monitoring programs at Mines in BC
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills to present ideas clearly
  • Proficient user of Computer Applications, including Word, Excel and Google Workspace
  • Competent in effectively managing competing priorities, interdepartmental working relationships, and project timelines
  • Work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and possess a strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization, and ability to influence outcomes, and ability to manage conflict
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of appropriately applying prescribed environmental, safety and technical protocols
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Self-motivated, high energy, strong organizational and time management skills
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Borealis, SAP, and MonitorPro Database is an asset
  • Experience with ISO 45001 considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, validate, and streamline data collection systems ensuring integrity before data enters the system of record.
  • Compliance, Engagement and Commitment tracking through various management systems and platforms
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline environmental and compliance programs, and implement progressive mitigation strategies to elevate site-wide compliance standards
  • Participate in all Company Environment and Health & Safety programs and support the safety culture through involvement in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
  • Support achievement of legal compliance with permit and regulatory requirements through system implementation and regular compliance audits,
  • Streamline and optimize existing data collection systems (incl. telemetry, automation, digital collection)
  • Maintain professional and ethical conduct standards in all interactions with regulators, First Nations communities, and the public
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or as assigned by the department head.
