About The Position

GAI Consultants is seeking an Environmental Compliance Intern to work out of our Cranberry office within our Civil & Environmental Engineering Business Unit. The successful candidate will serve as a member of the Environmental Compliance Staff under a licensed Professional Engineer to assist with projects assisting clients with their compliance needs. The successful candidate should enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment. This position will afford an excellent opportunity for the individual to expand their experience and knowledge base in federal and state environmental regulations and methodologies in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and the surrounding region.

Requirements

Applicant must be enrolled at an accredited college or university to obtain a bachelor's degree in Engineering or related.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members.
Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.).
Demonstrate in-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages.
Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry.

Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation and review of client specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans and state specific PPC Plans.
Review and assist in the completion of state and federal environmental air quality permits including Minor Modifications and Major Source – Title V.
Review E&S control and stormwater plans associated with both site and linear construction Projects.
Perform field monitoring with supervision on various types of construction projects, not limited to: erosion and sediment (E&S) compliance. Phase I ESAs, etc.
Prepare periodic reports and applications (field monitoring, reporting, compliance, permitting, etc.) as assigned. Reports may be submitted via paper report or electronically.
When required, be able to perform basic calculations and to review specifications, permits, and permit conditions.
Utilize electronic location devices such as a GPS or a GPS enabled device to collect data tied to a Project location.
Adhere to the Health and Safety requirements of GAI Consultants and GAI’s clients.
Maintain QA/QC standards and adhere to the Quality Management System procedures of GAI Consultants and the quality procedures of GAI’s clients.
Must be flexible; some travel will be expected as part of this position although overnight stays out of town are not required.
