About The Position

Dudek is seeking as-needed Mid-Level environmental compliance field technicians to conduct field work in Humboldt County, California. Field efforts will be focused on conducting surveys for biological resources under the direction of a project manager or field supervisor, and monitoring environmental sensitive areas during preconstruction and construction phases. Candidates that have experience working outdoors, a degree in environmental studies and interested in environmental survey experience are highly encouraged to apply. Prior field experience is preferred but not necessary. The anticipated work hours would be about 8-20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, or other related field OR at least 2 years of field experience in construction compliance monitoring and/or surveying
  • Must demonstrate solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong time management skills.
  • Flexibility with weather and survey conditions that can change rapidly in the field, and an understanding that it may affect how many hours can be surveyed in a day, week, or month.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and self-motivated with an interest to learn and grow.
  • Driver’s license, auto insurance and/or the ability to be insured to drive a vehicle.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is required to travel to project site (4WD not necessary).
  • As a federal contractor, successful candidates are required to pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: pre-employment drug test and background check.

  • Previous approvals from CDFW and/or USFWS as a project-approved biological monitor or designated biologist.
  • Proficient in construction monitoring and inspection experience

  • Certifications in sediment and erosion control
  • Experience conducting hazardous materials inspections

Responsibilities

  • Ability to tolerate hot temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk/trek long distances (between 1-10 miles) through uneven terrain during extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work on a computer, tablet, or mobile phone while sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Work with construction crews and environmental resource leads to documenting compliance levels related to environmental regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with construction personnel and regulatory personnel to develop solutions while implementing permit conditions.
  • Record and take notes of any observations on a Dudek platform and electronic device (smartphone/tablet) to be used for reporting purposes.
  • Follow all Dudek and construction site safety protocols.
  • Interact with clients, government agency representatives, members of the public, and others while working on-site.
