About The Position

The Environmental Care Manager is responsible for delivering a high-quality, reliable Environmental Care Services program supporting hospital and administrative facilities. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Environmental Care Services, this role provides leadership, operational oversight, and technical expertise to ensure hospital environments meet the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance. The Manager oversees Environmental Care Supervisors and staff, ensuring efficient operations, excellent customer service, and effective resource management. This role plays a key part in developing programs, schedules, and performance standards while continuously improving service delivery through data analysis, staff development, and operational planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Services, Healthcare Administration, Facilities Management, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience . Associate's degree required, Experience may be substituted for the degree on 2 years of experience for 1 year of education basis .i.e. 4 years.
  • Several years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, or facilities operations, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience required.
  • Knowledge of hospital environmental care standards, infection prevention practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and applications including email, spreadsheets, and work order systems.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to analyze operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents such as floor plans and service manuals.
  • Experience using performance metrics and quality indicators to improve operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, or sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment or materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to safely use required protective equipment and follow safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Environmental Care Supervisors and staff to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor environmental care programs, routines, and cleaning schedules across hospital and administrative areas.
  • Analyze operational feedback and performance metrics (e.g., patient experience scores, quality audits) to improve services and efficiency.
  • Allocate staffing and resources to effectively manage workload and respond to peak demand periods.
  • Establish and monitor performance standards to maintain high levels of cleanliness, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure all environmental care activities comply with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and organizational policies.
  • Support departmental fiscal goals by assisting with budgeting, capital planning, and resource management.
  • Oversee equipment, supply, and materials inventories to maintain adequate operational levels.
  • Collaborate with Facilities leadership and other departments to ensure coordinated service delivery.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and discipline staff as needed while applying applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Promote a culture of workplace safety and continuous improvement.
