About The Position

Performs certified and specialized tasks related to removal, treating, and storage of Regulated Medical Waste, both within and outside of the Medical Center. Performs project tasks done on a regular and rotational basis. Knowledgeable of chemicals, DOT, OSHA, and VUMC procedures, and equipment used in completing assigned tasks. May also perform general cleaning tasks, removes other trash, soiled linens and/or makes beds. Applies VUMC and EVS Customer Service principles to all work.

Requirements

1 year relevant work experience
High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Responsibilities

Removes, treats, and stores Regulated Medical Waste from all VUMC areas utilizing established DOT, VUMC, OSHA and other established and certified protocols.
May clean assigned area according to established 8-step and VUMC EVS procedures.
Uses special equipment, chemicals, PPE, and supplies appropriately and correctly.
Reports light outages and other maintenance needs to supervisor.
Uses area-specific equipment safely and correctly, and within the regulatory compliance standards set forth by DOT, OSHA, VUMC, and JCAHO.
Follows specific cleaning protocols established by VUMC and CDC.
Cleans and maintains equipment daily to ensure correct and proper operation.
Works closely with nurse managers in areas for cooperation on scheduling projects and quality controls.
Greets visitors cheerfully and offers assistance as needed.
Works in cooperation with supervisor, and interfaces with other staff in a friendly, professional manner; enlists cooperation from all colleagues.
