About The Position

Intertek is seeking an Environmental Asbestos Technician I to join their Environmental team in St. Louis, Missouri. This role supports the Environmental department in services such as asbestos surveys, asbestos third-party monitoring, and lead-based paint surveys. The position involves both fieldwork and technical report writing, with some overnight regional travel required. Intertek's Building and Construction division is a leader in various architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines, offering innovative product and project solutions. Their project-related services include assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting, acting as a risk management and quality assurance partner for new developments, existing assets, and facilities. Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) is a prominent US-based provider of construction assurance, testing, and inspection in civil and commercial construction, with services spanning construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing.

Requirements

  • BS in Environmental Science or 5 years experience in the asbestos consulting or abatement industry.
  • Some experience in asbestos, lead-based paint, and/or mold inspecting, sampling, assessment, etc.
  • Current or expired Asbestos Inspector License – State of Missouri or ability to apply for license within the first 30 days of employment (Intertek will pay for class/licensing).
  • Must be detail-oriented, and a team player with excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Must be computer literate and able to operate most field/office equipment relating to one’s discipline.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and lift, move, push, and pull items with weights in excess of 30 pounds multiple times as needed to complete project requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record.
  • 15% travel.
  • Must be able to work off shifts and overtime and willing to work out of town occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field sampling of asbestos and other indoor air quality media as part of site assessment and remediation activities on projects as directed by senior team members.
  • Assist in the development of work scope, report preparation, client and subcontractor coordination, and assessment of proper response actions.
  • Maintain Training Records / Field Instrumentation / Certifications (will provide training updates).
  • Participate in all QA/QC programs as appropriate and Safety Programs.
  • Communicate with clients and regulatory agencies to keep projects moving and on schedule.
  • Operate testing equipment and conduct testing and provide assessment of data through reporting.
