About The Position

Under general direction of the Environmental Program Manager, administers assigned environmental compliance programs. Performs investigations, environmental testing, and other duties in office, lab, and/or on location in the field as needed; analyzes and interprets data; Supports Program Manager in implementation of Environmental Affairs’ stakeholder role in DFW’s Sustainability Policy and implementation of DFW Airport’s Environmental Management System and Environmental Policy and implements Best Management & Good Housekeeping Practices. Conducts compliance inspections for the activities of internal DFW Board departments, airlines, tenants, and coordinates with governmental and other regulatory agencies.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in physical or life sciences, environmental science, engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental operations, environmental analysis, or environmental program administration.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted to the above.
Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et. Al. and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug screening test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
This is a designated essential employee position as defined in the Categories and Classifications of Employees Policy of the Airport Administrative Policy and Procedure. This is defined as an employee whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.
Department may designate specific area(s) of environmental experience.
Licenses and certifications required by state and federal agencies for the performance of these job duties must be obtained within the time specified by department. Failure to do so may result in termination of employment.
Fulfill all training requirements and activities in accordance with Title 14 CFR Part 139 and Administrative Policy AO.014.01, Ground Vehicle Driver Training for Air Operations Area.

Responsibilities

Administers assigned environmental compliance program(s); analyzes federal, state and local environmental regulations that impact airport property, planning and/or operations and develops options for compliance with impacted work and/or operational areas; makes recommendations and assists in developing program plans.
Performs field investigations, inspections and remediation having impact on assigned airport environmental program(s), construction sites and properties; directs and performs testing and sampling of soil, water, asbestos and/or air in accordance with applicable regulatory criteria; analyzes and interprets data. Collection of samples involves access to remote, undeveloped sites and must be performed in all weather. Carries collection equipment to and from collection sites.
Maintains EAD systems and airport databases as required and prepares, certifies and submits technical reports to a variety of state and federal agencies.
Prepares technical reports and presents findings in writing and in meetings/presentations.
Reviews work orders, construction applications, lease agreements, and permits for compliance with environmental laws, regulations and rules; recommends authorization of work orders; facilitates/coordinates meetings involving contractors, clients and management.
Manages environmental and/or sustainability projects in conjunction with project managers; leads, directs, assesses and develops team members; coordinates job assignments and responsibilities with crews and contractors and reports results to Program Manager.
Assists with the development and implementation of regulatory strategies for operational permits and environmental impact statements; obtain operational permits and represent the airport/department during negotiations with regulatory agencies on permit conditions, variances or other environmental areas.
Provides documentation, quality control and scheduling as required for the administration and execution of each assignment (i.e. Capital funding documents, Official Board Actions, Work Authorizations, etc.).
Maintains an understanding of client processes and assists clients in the continuous improvement of processes with environmental regulatory requirements.
Evaluates and develops comments on proposed state and federal laws and regulations.
Participates in community activities and trade show events promoting positive customer relations.
Meets with representatives of state and federal agencies and local municipalities; responds to agency requests for information during site visits.
Responds to environmental emergencies; coordinates response actions pertaining to area of assignment in coordination with state and federal agencies. Deploys emergency intervention devices such as booms, absorbent materials, and neutralizing agents.
Ensures environmental aspects and impacts within the span of control of your position are identified and timely communicate applicable personnel and operational changes to Environmental Affairs.
Evaluates environmental performance. Provides employee feedback regarding needed performance improvements and acknowledge employees whose environmentally related performance is exemplary.
