About The Position

Alabama Power’s Environmental Affairs Department is seeking a qualified and motivated candidate to join its Air Compliance team. This position may be filled at an entry to senior level, depending on the applicant's skills and qualifications. The role includes overseeing and supporting programs that ensure compliance with air-related environmental laws, regulations, and permit requirements. Key responsibilities encompass interpreting regulations, providing guidance and support to affected facilities, preparing air permit applications, calculating air emissions, submitting regulatory reports, assessing compliance status, and acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies and facility personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or Science-related field (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, etc.)
  • Knowledge of environmental air regulations and permitting
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Proficient in computer and software packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail with a focus on quality, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Ability to assess situations and communicate effectively with all stakeholders
  • Capacity to manage multiple work assignments simultaneously
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing business demands
  • Promotes open communications, and comfortable with working in a collaborative team setting
  • Develops and maintain effective working relationships that are constructive in accomplishing job responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Interpret regulations and permit requirements and provide clear compliance guidance to affected facilities
  • Support facilities in maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and permit requirements
  • Calculate air emissions for facilities and submit required summaries to regulatory agencies
  • Prepare reports for submittal to regulatory agencies
  • Diligently review data to identify any occurrences outside normal operational parameters
  • Work alongside other air compliance staff members to promote teamwork with peers and to provide support for assigned facilities
  • Interact with regulatory agencies and develop effective working relationships with regulatory agency personnel
