About The Position

SGS is seeking an Environmental Account Manager to join their Sales & Business Development team. This role involves expanding environmental analytical services throughout Central Detroit and Michigan, with potential for growth into the Midwest. The position focuses on building client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and providing value-driven solutions to help clients meet environmental and regulatory goals. The company emphasizes the impact of this role in protecting communities, safeguarding natural resources, and supporting data-driven decisions for environmental health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field (required)
  • 5+ years in technical sales, project management, or customer service (required)
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong critical-thinking abilities and solution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work independently, manage a sales pipeline, and drive results
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems
  • Candidates must live within an hour distance to Detroit, MI.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the environmental industry or analytical testing services (strongly preferred)
  • Candidates with environmental lab sales experience are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a strong network within the environmental, consulting, remediation, and industrial markets.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities across Central Detroit Michigan & Midwest.
  • Conduct discovery sessions to understand client needs and align SGS solutions with their technical and regulatory challenges.
  • Develop compelling value propositions for analytical testing services—including water, soil, air, and specialty testing programs.
  • Collaborate with Client Services and Lab Operations to ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Lead proposal development, negotiate pricing, and secure new contracts.
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts, CRM updates, and market intelligence.
  • Represent SGS at tradeshows, technical seminars, and regional industry events.
  • Maintain strong customer advocacy and act as a trusted technical partner.
  • Continuously enhance your expertise in environmental compliance, analytical methods, and SGS service offerings.
