About The Position

The Environment of Care / Emergency Management Officer leads programs that help keep WakeMed safe, compliant, and prepared for emergencies. This role oversees safety initiatives, emergency management activities, life safety compliance, regulatory inspections, and performance improvement projects across the organization. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining safety policies and emergency plans, coordinating drills and inspections, investigating incidents, managing corrective action plans, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The Officer also provides staff training, participates in committees and workgroups, and serves as a resource for leaders and employees on safety and emergency preparedness matters. This position may require responding to emergencies or returning to work outside normal business hours to support critical incidents and organizational operations.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with safety, emergency management, regulatory compliance, or performance improvement programs
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Required -within 1 year of hire
  • Maintain Vehicle Operator Insurability Required
  • Hospital Incident Command Required
  • Hazardous Materials and Waste Technician Required
  • State Medical Assistance Team Required
  • Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Transportation Certification Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 3 Years Healthcare Safety Required
  • 3 Years Emergency Management Required
