About The Position
AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Philadelphia on October 7-8, 2026. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2027. The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines. On Thursday, interviews will take place at our Philadelphia office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities. AECOM is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Entry-Level Traction Power Engineer to join our team in Philadelphia, PA. This position is expected to begin as soon as possible. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, analysis of DC or AC traction power systems for railways, light rail transit (LRT), or other electrified transportation networks. The candidate will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to real-world projects, gaining practical knowledge in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or in another related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in performing Traction Power projects.
- Electrical Engineering Degree with a focus on Power Systems.
- Engineering in Training (EIT) License.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced dynamic work environment.
- Basic understanding of electrical power systems and circuit analysis and electrical theory.
- Familiarity with AC and DC power concepts.
- Strong interest in railway or transit systems.
- Knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in the design and analysis of traction power distribution systems, including substations, overhead catenary systems (OCS), and third rail systems.
- Support the development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Perform calculations related to voltage drop, current flow, and power system performance.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
- Conduct field inspections and site visits to gather data and observe construction activities.
- Assist in the testing and commissioning of traction power equipment.
- Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., NESC, IEEE).
