About The Position

Provo City is recruiting for Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics that are interested in becoming Firefighters with the Provo City Fire Department. Testing will be conducted November 10th & 12th, 2026. Candidates will be contacted with additional information one week before the testing date. The position is full-time and regular, with scheduled hours of 40 per week.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Basic EMT OR Paramedic license (Utah Office of Emergency Medical Services and Preparedness).
• Firefighter I and II certifications required within 6 months.
• Valid, Utah Driver License.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a medical exam, drug screen, and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.

Responsibilities

• Fight fires by placing, connecting, and advancing hoses.
• Operate pumps, nozzles, ladders, hydrants, extinguishers, generators, and other specialized firefighting equipment and apparatus.
• Search for and rescue victims from burning buildings, vehicles, or other structures and locations.
• Assess victims and determine emergency medical treatment needed at incidents.
• Handle a wide variety of emergency situations.
• Provide medical treatment.
• Transport, lift, restrain or otherwise move patients.
• Report victim assessments and conditions to medical personnel.
• Participate in drills and training.
• Restock ambulance supplies and maintain supply inventory during shifts.
• Assist other staff and perform other related duties as required.
