About The Position

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology, has an opening for a full-time Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional. The lab conducts translational research into the interplay of nutrient status, the redox environment, and immune function. We have active murine as well as human sample projects ongoing. Currently, multiple of our projects center on the importance of a particular micronutrient, Se, as well as Se-dependent antioxidant enzymes. Responsibilities for this position will include managing patient samples, assisting with data collection, learning redox-related enzyme activity assays, as well as methods to evaluate protein and RNA isolation from cells and tissue, Western blotting, reverse transcription, and QPCR. Duties will include general lab maintenance, record keeping, and occasional weekend hours will be required. The ideal candidate will be reliable, personable, highly motivated, and have demonstrated the ability to work independently when appropriate. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, productive research group. This position is located in the Perinatal Research Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
  • Knowledge of science research.
  • Basic computer and mathematics skills
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office.
  • Able to follow instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under the direction of multiple investigators.

Nice To Haves

  • Redcap experience.
  • Experience with enzyme activity assays.
  • Experience with ELISAs.
  • Minimum one (1) course background in biochemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Biochemical assays: western blot, PCR, ELISA, and measurements of oxidative stress, as well as enzyme activity assays (60%)
  • Manage sample collection; duties include coordinating the collection of plasma, urine, and stool samples from preterm infants, RedCap data collection, and logging. Occasional weekend hours will be required (30%)
  • General lab maintenance; ordering, cleaning, organization of data (10%)
