About The Position

This is a temporary assignment for an Entry Communications Technician within Enterprise Technology at The University of Texas at Austin. The role involves providing semi-skilled and installer helper level installation of Telecommunications cabling. The assignment is expected to continue until August 31, 2026, and is benefits-eligible. The selected candidate will be responsible for installing telecom cabling in various structures, operating mechanical and electrical equipment, completing time and materials reports, setting up and dismantling equipment, and operating a UT vehicle. A current/valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record are required.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Work constructively as a team member.
  • Exercise good safety habits.
  • Experience installing inside plant communications cabling and wireless access points.
  • Experience in commercial construction work.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Class "C" operator's driver's license.
  • Provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence.
  • Obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident (if not currently a Texas resident).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience installing inside plant communications cabling and wireless access points.
  • Experience in commercial construction work.

Responsibilities

  • Install Telecom cabling in new and existing structures in enclosed and cramped spaces or at heights.
  • Operate mechanical and electrical equipment used in the installation of cabling in close proximity to high voltage and high pressure steam pipes.
  • Complete Reports of time, materials, and other necessary items required for the assigned tasks.
  • Set up and dismantle equipment.
  • Operate a UT vehicle.
