Enterprise Technical Lead (Clearance Required)

Vannevar•Washington, DC
•$150,000 - $215,000•Remote

About The Position

Vannevar is hiring an Enterprise Technical Lead to own technical direction and engineering delivery for a portfolio of national security customer accounts representing $10M–$50M in contract value. Accounts may be organized around a service branch, combatant command, or emerging mission area. The role spans the customer lifecycle, from discovering mission needs and shaping opportunities to testing concepts and scaling capabilities into sustained operations. The lead will use Vannevar’s Agent Control Plane to prototype and test AI capabilities, assess what is ready to scale, and guide suitable work toward dedicated product teams. The position begins as a hands-on technical leadership role on new accounts, involving direct engineering work, architecture decisions, implementation, and coaching. As the portfolio grows, the lead will build and lead the team while remaining accountable for architecture and delivery. The role requires regular in-person engagement with customers and engineers, with location aligned to the portfolio. Travel may be up to 20% for customer discovery and delivery support. Listed locations are Washington, DC; San Diego, CA; and Norfolk, VA.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on full-stack engineering experience, with ability to contribute directly to architecture, code, integrations, and deployment.
  • Experience leading technical delivery on enterprise accounts valued at $5M or more.
  • Track record of taking software from pilot or R&D into enterprise use, including scaling and ongoing support.
  • Experience building in government or similarly regulated environments, including familiarity with DoD RMF and NIST SP 800-53.
  • Experience working with government IT or program offices on requirements, architecture, and integrations.
  • Experience integrating with government systems, including data platforms, IAM, SIEMs, and cross-domain solutions.
  • Strong hands-on experience building production software in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js, including backend services, APIs, and modern web applications using React or a comparable framework.
  • Experience deploying and operating containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes in AWS or comparable environments.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, search, object storage, and caching systems such as Postgres, Elasticsearch, S3, and Redis.
  • Strong cross-functional communication across technical, customer, product, and business stakeholders.
  • Active U.S. Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications or agents, including tool and data integrations, model context providers, evaluation, observability, and reliability.
  • Experience with DoD Cloud Computing SRG impact levels (IL2/IL4/IL5/IL6).

Responsibilities

  • Set technical strategy across a portfolio, translating mission priorities into architectures, plans, and deployed capabilities.
  • Determine when to configure existing platform tools, build reusable extensions, or develop mission-specific software, and push back on commitments that cannot be delivered securely or sustainably.
  • Manage engineering capacity and priorities across accounts to ensure commitments match available delivery resources.
  • Work directly with customers and end users to understand mission needs and constraints.
  • Learn customer network topologies, enterprise architectures, and mission applications to extend existing systems and design solutions that can mature into Programs of Record.
  • Shape opportunities with customer success, business development, legal, and contracting teams, contributing technical content to ROMs and SOWs.
  • Build and validate prototypes with customers and product teams, and guide successful capabilities toward production, scale, and transition to dedicated product teams.
  • Feed recurring engineering challenges and reusable patterns into quarterly Platform/Product planning.
  • Enable forward-deployed engineers to contribute improvements directly to the platform.
  • Produce architecture artifacts, including system context, component, interface, data-flow, and deployment diagrams; use UML/SysML where useful.
  • Track work in tools such as Jira and Notion so decisions are traceable and work can be continued by the team.
  • Guide teams through security, compliance, and authorization requirements, coordinating with customer security stakeholders to support ATO and deployment.
  • Mentor engineers and technical leads; as the role grows, provide performance feedback, reviews, and development planning.
  • Contribute directly to architecture, code, integrations, and deployment while learning and working with the technology stack.
  • Travel up to 20% for customer discovery and delivery support.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary of $150,000–$215,000, plus equity and 401(k) match; individual pay depends on experience, relevant education, and/or training.
