About The Position

This role is for an Enterprise Solution Architect within the Federal Civilian Practice, focusing on the modernization of a federal home loan benefit program. The architect will be responsible for translating complex statutes, policies, and business rules into a modern platform while the legacy system remains operational. The program involves origination-adjacent workflows, servicing oversight, loss mitigation, claims, grants, analytics, and data exchanges with external users. The target platform is Salesforce-centered with serverless capabilities in a government cloud. This is a hands-on role where designs are built, deployed, and measured quickly, with accountability for production performance. A deep understanding of the mortgage domain, including the loan lifecycle from origination to claims, regulatory pressures, and industry participants, is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience from both the commercial mortgage side (lender, servicer, vendor) and the federal agency side (guaranty, insurance, oversight). Experience with legacy system decomposition and modernization is also crucial. The role requires strong communication skills to translate technical details for engineers and program consequences for executives, as well as the ability to make defensible design decisions under ambiguity. AI tools are expected to be integrated into the architect's workflow for tasks like legacy code analysis, documentation acceleration, and design pressure-testing, while adhering to federal security and data boundaries. Judgment remains human, and boundaries are non-negotiable.

Requirements

• Deep mortgage domain expertise: knowledge of the loan lifecycle from origination through servicing, loss mitigation, and claims, including data, regulatory pressure points, and industry participants.
• Experience from both the commercial mortgage side (lender, servicer, or vendor technology) and the federal housing agency side (guaranty, insurance, oversight programs).
• Enterprise and solution architecture track record: experience owning target-state architectures, designing complex integrations and data migrations, and producing design artifacts used by development teams.
• Fluency across application, data, and integration architecture.
• Federal delivery credibility: experience designing within regulated federal environments or delivering technology to federal housing programs, with an understanding of authorization, security controls, accessibility, and documentation requirements.
• Experience with legacy system decomposition, rule extraction, and sequenced replacement while the system remains in production.
• Demonstrated AI-in-the-loop practice: ability to show concrete examples of how AI tools accelerate architecture and analysis work.
• Strong communication skills: ability to translate statute and policy into architecture for engineers, and architecture into consequences for executives and program officials.
• Judgment under ambiguity: ability to commit to defensible designs on incomplete information, document assumptions, and revise based on new facts.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Salesforce platform architecture experience, or architecture on a comparable configuration-first enterprise platform.
• Hands-on work with MISMO dataset versioning, URLA, or other mortgage data standards implementations.
• Experience with VA loan guaranty, FHA, USDA rural housing, or GSE programs and systems.
• Serverless architecture in AWS GovCloud or similar government cloud environments.
• Prior support of authorization packages, Zero Trust initiatives, or federal data governance programs.

Responsibilities

• Define and defend a coherent enterprise architecture across legacy systems, the modern platform, and bridging services.
• Translate approved requirements into complete solution packages, including architecture and state diagrams, data models, API and interface specifications, integration designs, and test strategies with full traceability.
• Determine the balance between configuration and customization, defending these decisions with evidence to the customer's change authority.
• Own the logical and physical data models, data dictionaries, and the migration and bridging strategy for loan data.
• Design data governance enforcement into the architecture.
• Design industry-facing integration architecture, including APIs, batch exchanges, and system-to-system transfers, with fluency in mortgage data standards like MISMO.
• Design for resilience, self-recovery, and monitoring in industry integrations.
• Develop the legacy decommissioning roadmap, sequencing function migration and designing bridge services.
• Provide fast, credible solution judgment within a formal intake process.
• Engineer security and compliance (Zero Trust, accessibility, data protection, authorization) into designs from the outset.
• Run design reviews, mentor engineers and analysts on architectural thinking, and document and enforce architecture standards.
• Help decide where AI belongs within the solutions themselves, considering federal security, data, and authorization boundaries.
• Ensure AI output is reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness for a federal system of record.
• Adhere to federal environment regulations regarding tools used with government code, systems, and data.
