About The Position

Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, is seeking an Enterprise Architect, Data Platform. This role is critical in defining and governing the enterprise-wide data architecture strategy, standards, and roadmap. The Enterprise Architect will ensure data platforms, analytics capabilities, AI/ML services, integration frameworks, governance practices, and cloud technologies align with business objectives and enterprise architecture standards. This position involves close collaboration with business leaders, technology teams, data engineering organizations, security, governance, and application teams to build scalable, secure, reliable, and cost-effective data platforms that enable digital transformation, advanced analytics, AI initiatives, and enterprise decision-making.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
12+ years of progressive experience in enterprise technology and data architecture.
5+ years of experience in Enterprise Architect or Senior Data Architect roles.
Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale cloud data platforms.
Experience leading architecture initiatives across multiple business domains and technology organizations.
Experience building and executing an operating model for a Solution Architecture organization with measurable outcomes.
Technical Expertise in Data Architecture: Data Lakehouse Architecture, Enterprise Data Warehousing, Data Modeling, Data Mesh, Data Products, Master Data Management (MDM), Metadata Management, Data Governance.
Technical Expertise in Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Technical Expertise in Data & Analytics Technologies: Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Kafka, Spark, Dbt, Coalesce, Airflow.
Technical Expertise in Architecture Disciplines: Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, Integration Architecture, Security Architecture.
Leadership Competencies: Strategic Thinking, Executive Communication, Enterprise Influence, Business Acumen, Technology Vision, Organizational Leadership, Change Leadership, Cross-Functional Collaboration, Decision Making Under Ambiguity, Mentoring and Coaching.

Responsibilities

Define and maintain the enterprise data platform vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap.
Establish architectural principles, standards, and reference architectures for enterprise data platforms.
Develop future-state architecture models supporting analytics, AI/ML, operational reporting, and data products.
Align data platform investments with business and technology modernization strategies.
Champion cloud-native architectural patterns and best practices.
Lead enterprise architecture across Data Lakehouse Platforms, Real-Time Streaming Architectures, Data Mesh and Data Product Architectures, Metadata and Data Catalog Solutions, Master Data Management (MDM), Data Quality Frameworks, and AI and Machine Learning Platforms.
Define architecture standards for Batch and real-time data processing, Event-driven architectures, API-enabled data access, Data virtualization, Streaming and Change Data Capture (CDC), and Multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments.
Architect solutions across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform environments.
Guide platform strategy and usage for technologies including Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Kafka, Coalesce/Dbt, and Fivetran.
Evaluate emerging technologies and provide strategic recommendations to drive innovation and business value.
Establish enterprise standards for data governance, lineage, quality, metadata management, retention, and compliance.
Ensure architectures support regulatory requirements including GDPR, CCPA, SOX, HIPAA (where applicable), and cybersecurity standards.
Partner with Information Security teams to define secure data access models and protection controls.
Define enterprise integration strategies spanning ERP Platforms, CRM Systems, Digital Platforms, Supply Chain Applications, Manufacturing Systems, and Customer Service Platforms.
Establish standards for APIs and integration services, Data contracts, Event architectures, Digital thread architecture, and Master and reference data integration.
Lead architecture review boards and solution design reviews.
Approve major platform architecture decisions.
Ensure consistency across business units and technology domains.
Develop architecture scorecards, compliance frameworks, and technology standards.
Mentor and influence architects and technology leaders across the organization.
