About The Position

Diamond Charter School (DCS) is a new and innovative educational institution opening in September 2026 in Hempstead, NY. The Elementary English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher provides targeted English language development instruction to multilingual learners in grades K–5, supporting them in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while ensuring access to grade-level academic content through best practices and small group instruction. The ideal candidate values culturally responsive teaching, understands second-language acquisition, and collaborates effectively with classroom teachers to support student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or related field.
  • Valid state certification in TESOL/ESL or English as a New Language (ENL).
  • Knowledge of second-language acquisition theory and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
  • Experience in co-teaching or push-in instructional models.
  • Familiarity with WIDA standards or other state ELP frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct English language development (ELD) instruction aligned to state English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards.
  • Deliver instruction through push-in, pull-out, and small-group models as appropriate.
  • Differentiate lessons to address varying English proficiency levels.
  • Integrate academic language instruction across content areas (ELA, math, science, social studies).
  • Use research-based strategies to support language acquisition and literacy development.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to scaffold instruction for multilingual learners.
  • Co-plan lessons that incorporate language objectives alongside content objectives.
  • Support classroom teachers in implementing strategies for language development.
  • Participate in grade-level and data team meetings.
  • Administer and interpret English language proficiency assessments.
  • Monitor and document student progress in language acquisition.
  • Maintain accurate records for compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines.
  • Participate in multilingual learner identification, placement, and reclassification processes.
  • Communicate effectively with families, including those whose primary language is not English.
  • Support families in understanding school programs and language development goals.
  • Promote culturally responsive and inclusive classroom practices.
