About The Position

Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) is seeking passionate, caring, and dedicated educators for its Enhanced Summer Program. As an Educator, you will engage, connect, and learn alongside children, families, community partners, and co-workers. You will model and grow a perspective of equity and strive for a deeper understanding of cultural awareness. The role involves working 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with program hours typically running from 7 am to 6 pm, subject to change based on program needs and funding. This is a temporary contract position.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards in a childcare program.
  • Experience working/volunteering with children and youth.
  • Possession of training and documents required by the Ministry of Education, Compass Early Learning and Care, and the Child Care Early Years Act to work in a childcare setting: Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, Updated immunization records (Or a signed and notarized refusal of affidavit or medical exemption).
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, or has a post-secondary degree in a similar field (i.e. Forest School Practitioner, Child and Youth Care, Recreation and Leisure, Bachelor of Education, etc).
  • Access to reliable transportation.

  • Planning and implementing play-based experiences surrounding children’s interests.
  • Empowering age-appropriate risk-taking and deep play, based on process-oriented learning.
  • Observing and documenting children’s learning.
  • Building relationships with families and including them in the learning process.
  • Working as part of a team with fellow Co-workers, Families, Community Partners, and Children.
  • Ensuring the safety of staff and children by learning and acknowledging all children’s diverse needs and backgrounds, and creating equitable opportunities for all children to engage.
  • Demonstrating respect for spaces by maintaining a safe environment, by providing Risk assessments and implementing safety plans in the areas used in the forest.
  • Giving the children time and space to play in sensory-rich, experiential learning environments.
  • Using the environment as inspiration for creative play opportunities.
  • Living into the calls to action 10 & 63 – sharing the truth of Canada's history & offering an Indigenous lens.
