About The Position

Join the Global LT community and help provide language lessons to business professionals and their families worldwide. We are hiring an English Language Teacher to provide in-person customized lessons to our clients in Columbia, SC. This is an individual class for a gentleman, focusing on face-to-face English for a spouse. The lessons will take place at the student's home located at Harbour Pointe Dr, Columbia, SC 29229. The student requires one hour of lessons per week, scheduled between Monday and Friday, 10 am to 2 pm, as the student needs to pick up their daughter at 3 pm. The preferred start date is the first week of May 2026. The student is currently at an intermediate level, with German as their native and other spoken language. Their language needs and goals include everyday communication, building vocabulary, pronunciation and local accents, common phrases native speakers use daily, slang, conversations with native speakers, learning a language faster, and handling phone calls. The student's interests include Table Tennis, Soccer, Skiing, and Hiking. The student finds speaking English challenging because words do not come to them as quickly.

Requirements

Native or near-native written and spoken proficiency in the target language
Certificate or degree in language teaching, education, instructional design, writing, language, linguistics, second-language acquisition, or related field
Minimum of two years of teaching experience

Nice To Haves

Experience teaching English for everyday communication, vocabulary building, pronunciation, slang, and phone calls.
Ability to incorporate student interests such as Table Tennis, Soccer, Skiing, and Hiking into lessons.
Understanding of challenges faced by intermediate learners, particularly those whose native language is German.
