About The Position

Ste Genevieve Catholic Church, Ste Genevieve is seeking a passionate, student-centered English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to support students in grades K–8 within a dynamic and faith-centered learning environment. The ELA Teacher is responsible for developing students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills while fostering a lifelong love of literacy. The ideal candidate creates engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction that supports a wide range of learners and contributes to the academic, social, and spiritual growth of each student.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Language Arts, or a related field required
  • Valid teaching certification appropriate for elementary and/or middle school (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong knowledge of literacy instruction, including reading development, writing instruction, and grammar.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learners.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology to support instruction.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the school.
  • All candidates receiving an employment offer must submit a pre-employment screening.   • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching reading and writing at the elementary and/or middle school level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based English Language Arts instruction appropriate for elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Teach core literacy skills, including reading comprehension, writing (narrative, informational, and persuasive), grammar, vocabulary, and speaking/listening skills.
  • Incorporate a variety of texts, including literature, informational texts, poetry, and digital resources.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and developmental levels of students.
  • Integrate technology and innovative instructional strategies to enhance student learning.
  • Foster critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication skills.
  • Encourage a love of reading and writing through meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
  • Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Promote student independence, organization, and responsibility appropriate to grade level.
  • Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress and literacy development.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work, including writing and projects.
  • Use data to inform instruction and provide targeted support or enrichment.
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, assignments, and student progress.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Implement consistent classroom routines and behavior expectations.
  • Create a positive culture that encourages collaboration, discussion, and mutual respect.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to support student success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Participate in school events, activities, and student life initiatives.
