Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Valid California teaching credential with English Learner authorization, CLAD/BCLAD, or equivalent authorization required or in progress, as applicable.
  • Commitment to STEAM education, college readiness, and whole-child student support.
  • Ability to use student data, formative assessment, and differentiated instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Strong instructional, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Set and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for all students.
  • Implement classroom management practices aligned to school-wide expectations, PBIS, and tiered supports.
  • Use consistent routines, procedures, and systems that maximize instructional time and support student independence.
  • Build a classroom community where students demonstrate respect, care, growth mindset, and ownership of learning and behavior.
  • Plan and deliver lessons aligned to grade-level standards, including ELD standards as applicable.
  • Use Magnolia-adopted curriculum and approved instructional materials where applicable, while ensuring all lessons remain standards-aligned and rigorous.
  • Clearly communicate learning objectives and connect lessons to broader learning goals and real-world relevance.
  • Design rigorous learning experiences that engage students in productive struggle, academic discourse, inquiry, writing, problem-solving, and high-quality work.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, Section 504 plans, GATE identification, and English learners.
  • Design instruction so students do the majority of the thinking, speaking, reading, writing, problem-solving, and creating.
  • Use strategic questioning and discussion to deepen student understanding.
  • Provide opportunities for students to explain, justify, defend, and apply their thinking using evidence.
  • Support students in developing the habits of scientific thinkers, creative problem-solvers, effective communicators, and socially responsible contributors.
  • Build students’ ability to transfer knowledge and skills to new, complex, and authentic situations.
  • Assess student learning regularly through formal and informal methods.
  • Analyze student work and data, including academic, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional data, to identify trends, strengths, needs, and misconceptions.
  • Adjust instruction and provide reteaching based on student needs.
  • Provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback that supports student growth.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, including attendance, grades, progress monitoring, and required documentation.
  • Collaborate professionally and respectfully with colleagues, instructional leaders, support staff, and families to strengthen instruction and improve student outcomes.
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, collaboration, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Carry a full-time instructional schedule that typically includes five classes, one SSR period,and one advisory period, recognizing that each part of the teacher day contributes to students’ academic growth, sense of belonging, and long-term success.
  • Support school-wide duties and activities, including student supervision, testing/proctoring, school events, and other shared responsibilities as assigned.
  • Sponsor or support two required student activities, which may include two clubs, two tutoring sessions, or one club and one tutoring session, as assigned by the school.
  • Build meaningful school-home partnerships, including participation in family engagement practices such as home visits, conferences, and regular communication that support student learning, belonging, and success.
