About The Position

FI is seeking a fluent English-speaking educator to join our Maternelle teaching team. Teachers organize and implement instructional programs that support the mission of the school and help students develop and fulfill their potential in a multilingual, multicultural environment. Maternelle English teachers work collaboratively with French homeroom teachers, specialists, student support staff, and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator to deliver an engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experience grounded in both U.S. standards and the IB PYP framework, while supporting alignment with the French National Curriculum. This is a full-time, on-campus position with minimum hours of 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., outside of collaboration and meeting times.

Requirements

  • Teaching certificate.
  • Three years of teaching experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on teams and within school-wide initiatives.
  • Certification to teach the French national curriculum (France or another recognized francophone country).
  • Fluent French speaker (spoken and written).
  • Sufficient English proficiency to communicate professionally with colleagues and parents.

Nice To Haves

  • Five or more years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in international or bilingual schools.
  • IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) or Middle Years Programme (MYP) experience.
  • Bilingual in French and English.
  • Demonstrated intercultural fluency and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and work independently when needed.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement instructional plans aligned with the school’s curriculum, U.S. teaching standards, IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework, and division expectations.
  • Prepare yearly progression plans and unit plans.
  • Collaborate with French teachers, specialists, and student support staff to develop and implement interdisciplinary units of inquiry.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs, levels, and learning styles of students.
  • Foster a learning environment grounded in respect, inclusion, and appreciation of differences.
  • Create a dynamic, child-centered classroom environment that promotes curiosity, growth, and student success.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally (in English and, when applicable, French) with administrators, colleagues, students, and families.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student attendance, performance, and progress; share updates with families and administrators as required.
  • Report academic or behavioral concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and division leadership as part of an international teaching team.
  • Share knowledge, support, and communication effectively with teaching assistants and colleagues to maintain a healthy work environment.
  • Attend all required meetings, including faculty, divisional, grade-level, and collaborative planning meetings.
  • Participate actively in the life of the school, including meetings, committees, and community events.
  • Supervise students appropriately both on and off campus, including during field trips, overnight excursions, recess, lunch, and school-sponsored activities.
  • Co-teach and collaborate in a variety of learning environments, including classrooms, library spaces, maker spaces, and outdoor learning environments.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice and support the school’s mission.
  • Maintain required certifications and trainings, including Oregon Child Care Division Central Background Registry, Food Handler, CPR/First Aid, and Oregon Registry Online (ORO) requirements, if applicable.
  • Ability to move around the campus and transport instructional materials as needed; reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities.
