About The Position

Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) is seeking a Grade 9 English and Social Studies Teacher. This is a full-time, interim position. LCI provides a safe, supportive, and challenging learning environment with a diverse academic program, athletics, and fine arts. The school partners with the University of Lethbridge for Dual Credit courses and serves over 1550 students. LCI staff aim to maximize individual potential and connect students with the community and industry for post-graduation success. Requirements

  • Have an educational background in Social Studies and English Language Arts.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding of diverse learning contexts and the variables that influence student success, including cultural, social, and individual factors.
  • Possesses deep knowledge of subject disciplines and applies evidence-based pedagogical approaches that reflect current best practices in elementary education.
  • Shows proficiency in curriculum planning, formative and summative assessment strategies, and differentiated instructional practices that meet diverse learning needs.
  • Embodies the qualities of a reflective professional, actively engaging in ongoing professional learning aligned with Alberta's Teaching Quality Standard (TQS).
  • Demonstrates commitment to building and maintaining respectful, professional relationships within the school community.
  • Values and actively participates in collaborative practice and teamwork with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Must provide a police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Must provide proof of photo identification.
  • Must provide documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Grade 9 Social Studies and English Language Arts.
  • Potentially teach additional courses.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of key Social Studies domains, including history, geography, economics, civics, and political science.
  • Connect past and present events to help students understand contemporary issues.
  • Support students with an unwavering belief that every child is a capable learner.
  • Collaborate within the Social Studies and English departments.
  • Embed comprehension strategies that align with instructional purpose.
  • Support students in analyzing complex texts.
  • Encourage annotation, questioning, and discussion as students explore multiple perspectives and historical contexts.
  • Reinforce academic vocabulary and domain-specific language in both Social Studies and ELA.
  • Help students access and articulate complex ideas.
  • Motivate students to connect ideas across texts.
  • Use text sets to compose synthesis essays or multimedia responses to essential questions.
  • Integrate technology purposefully and effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Contribute actively to school culture, student activities, and extracurricular programs.
  • Develop effective partnerships within the school and broader community.
