About The Position

To create flexible elementary grade programs and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students; to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for further education, in accordance with each student’s ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

Requirements

  • Hold or be currently eligible for a valid Rhode Island Certification as an Elementary ELL educator (K-6).
  • Master's Degree in Elementary Education, TESOL preferred.
  • Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student.
  • Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, education experience, teaching, educational experience, and the interview process.
  • Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Pell Administration team and the Director of English Learners in identifying non-English speaking students.
  • Assume responsibility for testing, scheduling and the teaching of English using a variety of evidence-based ELL methodologies and strategies.
  • Provide ELL push in and/or pull-out instruction to students in grades K-4.
  • Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for students in grades K-4, along with ongoing monitoring of student progress.
  • Maintain a database of ELL and ELL-eligible students.
  • Assist in developing language acquisition support plans (ELL plans) for all ELL students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans.
  • Assist in completing ELL Accommodations Forms and ELL Progress Reports for elementary school students.
  • Work with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction.
  • Monitor and support classrooms from K-4th grade.
  • Assist in developing appropriate curriculum to help ELL students acquire the English language.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group instruction for learning/small-group or individual learning.
  • Assist in compiling and maintaining a profile summary (record of achievement and progress) for each student.
  • Assist in gathering and reporting data for reporting requirements and other required reports (to the State, Dept of Education, census, grant applications, annual report, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the program.
  • Engage parents and families in their student’s learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community attending community/school events.
  • Contribute productively to the school as a whole.
  • Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
  • If needed, attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law.
  • Attend and participate in established traditional school-sponsored activities (i.e., back-to school night, open house, and other activities customarily attended by classroom teachers and/or faculty members), which may be outside of regular school hours.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Facilitates ACCESS testing and the WIDA Screener, if designated to.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the principal and/or designee.
