About The Position

The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher is responsible for instructing English Language Learners (ELs) in reading, speaking, listening, and writing to help them achieve grade-level proficiency across all subject areas. An ideal candidate would have strong knowledge of English grammar and structure, along with proven methodologies for teaching English to non-native speakers. They also would have strong knowledge of the WIDA English Language Development standards and ACCESS testing to support student growth.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • Valid Massachusetts teacher certification in English as a Second Language
  • SEI Endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Teach and implement the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards using approved language instruction methods
  • Develops clear and comprehensive lesson plans that have clear objectives
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques that are tailored to the instructional needs and capabilities of the students
  • Co-teach in general education classrooms when needed to support integrated learning
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to scaffold and support students' access to grade-level content
  • Administer the ACCESS English language proficiency test
  • Monitor student progress and develop plans to support students
  • Foster a safe inclusive classroom that is conducive to learning and aligned to Standards I & II on the teacher evaluation rubric
