About The Position

The English Language Arts Teacher will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals. This role involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a program of study that meets individual student needs, and creating a conducive learning environment. The teacher will also be responsible for preparing daily lessons, developing classroom behavior standards, coordinating field trips, monitoring student progress, and maintaining accurate records. Additionally, the teacher will assist the administration in implementing policies, attending staff meetings, and striving to improve professional competence.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor's degree with valid Tennessee teaching license and appropriate endorsement required.
  • Appropriate endorsements include 001, 007, 101, 121, 159, 400, 401, 402, 407, and 440.
  • Valid Tennessee teaching certificate at appropriate grade level.
  • Ability to understand instructions and underlying principles.
  • Ability to reason and make judgments.
  • Ability to understand meanings of words and the ideas associated with them.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers.
  • Ability to make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
  • Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students to the extent possible.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes daily and will provide written evidence upon request of principal.
  • Develops and encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Designs, develops, and coordinates field trips to meet the district’s goals and objectives.
  • Strives to implement through instruction the district’s philosophy of education.
  • Monitors on an ongoing basis the progress of students and provides reports as needed.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains complete, accurate, and correct records as required by law.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure; and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional conferences and workshops.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Performs such other duties as may reasonably be prescribed by the principal or assistant principal.
