About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Building Principal, the English/Language Arts Teacher provides high-quality instruction that develops students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills while promoting academic growth and college and career readiness. The teacher develops and implements standards-based instruction aligned with the Minnesota Academic Standards in English Language Arts and creates a positive learning environment that supports the success of all learners.

Requirements

Applicants must hold or be eligible for one of the following current Minnesota teaching licenses: Communication Arts and Literature (Grades 5–8) or Communication Arts and Literature (Grades 5–12).
Bachelor's degree required.
Appropriate Minnesota teaching licensure required.
Knowledge of effective instructional practices, curriculum development, and assessment strategies.
Knowledge of Minnesota Academic Standards in English Language Arts.
Knowledge of literacy development, reading comprehension, writing instruction, grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills.
Knowledge of classroom management strategies and positive behavior supports.
Ability to develop engaging lessons that foster reading, writing, critical thinking, discussion, and communication skills.
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions.
Proficiency with instructional technology and digital learning tools.
Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration.

Nice To Haves

Previous middle school and/or high school English/Language Arts teaching experience preferred.
Experience implementing evidence-based literacy instruction, writing instruction, and integrating technology into instruction preferred.

Responsibilities

Plans and delivers engaging, standards-aligned English/Language Arts instruction utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, literary texts, and writing experiences.
Creates a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, literacy development, and academic achievement.
Develops lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials aligned with district curriculum and Minnesota Academic Standards.
Utilizes formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet individual learning needs.
Differentiates instruction to support students with diverse academic, cultural, linguistic, and social-emotional needs.
Maintains accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
Integrates technology and instructional resources to enhance student learning, communication, research, and literacy skills.
Collaborates with colleagues to improve instructional practices, curriculum alignment, and student achievement.
Establishes positive relationships with students, families, and staff through effective communication and collaboration.
Participates in Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and other student support meetings as appropriate.
Supervises students in classrooms, hallways, and other assigned areas to ensure a safe learning environment.
Promotes reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary development, and critical analysis through a variety of instructional approaches.
Participates in department meetings, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and district professional development activities.
Supports district initiatives related to instructional improvement, student achievement, literacy, and school climate.
Maintains professional competence through continued professional learning and participation in professional organizations.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent.
Assists with school activities, committees, and other responsibilities that contribute to the overall success of the school.
