About The Position

Jefferson RISE is a tuition-free public charter school serving nearly 800 students in grades 6-12 in Harvey, Louisiana. Founded in 2014, the school is committed to providing every student with a path forward, whether that leads to a four-year university, a skilled trade, the military, entrepreneurship, or another endeavor. This is achieved through rigorous academics, strong relationships, consistent accountability, and a genuine commitment to each student's individual success. The school serves a diverse student body and has received recognition for its academic achievements, including the Top Gains Award and a high graduation rate. As a charter school, Jefferson RISE has its own academic calendar and daily schedule, with workdays generally from 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday, including mandatory Professional Development on Mondays until 4:30 PM. The English Instructional Coach is a critical role focused on improving student achievement by developing highly effective English teachers. This position reports to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and/or Executive Director and involves supervising and developing approximately 6-8 teachers while also teaching students for about 50% of the school day. The coach will utilize student work, assessment data, classroom observations, and teacher practice to drive continuous improvement through various methods like coaching meetings, PLC facilitation, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of two years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Demonstrated record of improving student achievement and student outcomes
  • Strong instructional planning, assessment, and data-analysis skills
  • Ability to coach, influence, and develop adult learners
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate approximately 6-8 English teachers
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one coaching meetings with direct reports
  • Observe classrooms regularly and provide actionable feedback aligned to the school's instructional rubric and NIET evaluation framework
  • Complete formal observations and evaluations in accordance with school timelines
  • Develop individualized growth plans for teachers
  • Support teachers in implementing feedback and measuring impact
  • Serve as a model educator and demonstrate effective instructional practices
  • Support retention and development of high-performing teachers
  • Plan and facilitate weekly English PLC meetings
  • Lead analysis of student work, assessment results, and instructional practices
  • Develop action plans to address student learning gaps
  • Design and facilitate professional development throughout the school year
  • Collaborate with other members of the Instructional Leadership Team to plan and deliver schoolwide professional learning
  • Lead summer professional development planning and facilitation
  • Ensure high-quality implementation of the school's Tier 1 English curriculum
  • Support teachers in lesson internalization, lesson planning, and assessment design
  • Analyze student achievement data and instructional trends
  • Support intervention planning for students who are not yet meeting grade-level expectations
  • Monitor curriculum implementation and instructional quality across classrooms
  • Stay current on instructional research and best practices in literacy and English instruction
  • Teach English courses for approximately 50% of the instructional day (2 HS blocks or equivalent.)
  • Maintain exemplary classroom results and instructional practices
  • Use classroom experience to model effective instruction and maintain credibility as an instructional leader
  • Demonstrate strong student achievement and high-quality student work outcomes
  • Participate in weekly Instructional Leadership Team meetings and Leadership Development
  • Support hiring efforts through candidate screening, interviews, demonstration lessons, and hiring recommendations
  • Assist with onboarding and development of new teachers
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student achievement and instructional programs when needed
