About The Position

West Shore Community College seeks a vibrant, innovative candidate to fill a full-time English composition faculty position. The position will begin in January 2027 with the potential for continuing appointment and full professor rank. The Communications Division is committed to creating an accessible environment in which every student feels supported and empowered to learn. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition or related field from an accredited institution
  • College-level teaching experience in English composition
  • Experience teaching writers at varying skill levels
  • Ability to teach in multiple instructional modalities (face-to-face, blended, hybrid, HyFlex, and/or online)
  • Commitment to the comprehensive community college mission

Nice To Haves

  • Possess community college teaching experience.
  • Show demonstrated commitment to building positive, collegial relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners.
  • Have experience teaching multimodal composition and supporting students’ development digital literacy skills.
  • Be experienced with curriculum development and assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching load (15 credit hours a semester/30 annually) primarily consisting of first-semester composition courses and co-requisite support courses, and second-semester composition courses
  • Participation in college committees, instructional planning, curricular review, and assessment
  • Currency in disciplinary trends, pedagogical innovations, and best practices within assigned instructional area(s)
  • Collaboration with faculty, staff, administration, and community in accordance with the core values of West Shore Community College
  • Meeting contractual obligations as designated in the West Shore Community College Instructional Agreement
