About The Position

Alma del Mar is a K-8 charter school with a mission to prepare scholars for college and to foster service-minded leadership. As an Expeditionary Learning school, Alma provides a demanding yet supportive environment with a content-rich education, focusing on knowledge mastery, character development, and high-quality student work. Located in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Alma scholars consistently outperform their district peers on MCAS and are recognized nationally for their work with English Language Learners. The ESL Specialist will plan and deliver effective interventions using English Language Development Standards, collaborate with other teachers and the academic support team to design scholar-centered instruction, and build strong relationships with families. The role offers support and autonomy, with a commitment to professional growth and career development.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or higher
• At least one year of full time teaching experience in a K-12 setting
• Proven effectiveness leading students to significant academic gains (please include specific data related to your student's academic gains in your resume)
• Massachusetts Teacher License required - English as a Second Language Teacher PreK-6
• A passion for working with kids and a belief that all kids can succeed

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach highly effective interventions both within and outside the general education classroom using the English Language Development Standards.
• Work closely with other teachers who serve kids in the grades you teach and the academic support team to design instruction that furthers every scholar’s learning.
• Develop high leverage relationships with Alma families.
