About The Position

Uncommon Schools is seeking an English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher passionate about helping English Language Learners (ELL) achieve English proficiency and access grade-level curriculum. This role involves primary responsibility for implementing ENL instruction alongside other general or special education instruction. Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred.
• NY State ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) or Bilingual Certification preferred but not required.
• Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, determine goals for, and track progress of individual English language learners using diagnostic and state-mandated assessments.
• Provide direct ENL instruction to small groups of students and/or provide inclusion support for ELA classes containing ELL students.
• Work with ELL students during assigned periods to help them access general education curriculum, build ELA skills, and support the use of technology-enhanced learning tools for language acquisition.
• Attend and participate in IEP meetings for English Learners and complete case management and compliance responsibilities.
• Advise teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum for ELL students and share best practices for sheltered content instruction.
• Keep updated and accurate records of ELL identification and performance data.
• Implement curricula and activities to meet high academic standards.
• Analyze assessments to measure progress and use data to inform and differentiate instructional practices.
• Focus on student learning, thinking critically and strategically to respond to student learning needs.
• Create a positive, structured learning environment that upholds school core values, high expectations, and code of conduct.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
• Commit to continual professional growth, actively participating in staff orientation and instructional training.
• Participate and support grade-level activities and school-wide functions.
