The Electronic Systems (ES) Sector’s Engineering Training Manager oversees the acquisition, training, development, and retention of over 5,000 engineers to meet the critical needs of our $5B business. This role fosters talent readiness across our US-based sites by providing an ecosystem which builds and supports a highly capable engineering talent pipeline. This requires developing strategies, in close collaboration with Engineering departments, other Engineering training leads, and Human Resources to build the bench in technical, personal effectiveness and leadership in areas of need identified by Engineering leadership. In partnership with the Director of US Defense Engineering Development (ED), this role has responsibilities for developing and executing a strategy that enables Engineering to acquire and retain engineering talent; and to develop engineers via development programs, training curricula, technical resource services, graduate certificate and degree programs, internal collaboration, external partnering, and mentoring and training portals. This role guides a skilled team of experts who provide programs, tools, resources, and networks to support employees’ technical abilities, leadership skills, career planning, and personal effectiveness – while encouraging them to invest in the development of others. This role is responsible for guiding and managing a strong foundation of offerings currently administered by Engineering Development, ensuring a well-developed workforce to support ES’ missions of “We Protect Those Who Protect Us” and “We Innovate for Those That Move the World.” Additionally, the establishment of new programs and services is often necessary to attract, hire, retain, and train engineering talent to support the breadth of programs within Electronic Systems.
