Requirements

  • Two years' experience at the level of Engineering Testing Aid III.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Experience at the level of an Engineering Testing Aid III in the service of County of Los Angeles is defined as: Performs physical, laboratory, and field tests of engineering construction materials.

What matters is that your experience is at a similar level — meaning your job involves similar responsibilities, requires comparable skills and knowledge, and takes place within a similar organizational structure.

Responsibilities

  • Collects specimens of soil, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt for accurate testing.
  • Evaluates sample data using Greenbook specifications, project specifications, and test data.
  • Excavates soil samples using hand tools.
  • Conducts laboratory and field tests on construction materials.
  • Performs density and compaction tests.
  • Performs concrete cylinder strength tests.
  • Performs complex physical tests on undisturbed samples.
  • Inspects galvanizing, coatings, and reinforcing steel.
  • Monitors construction materials.
  • Interprets testing and inspection requirements.
  • Records test data and inspection results.
  • Provides technical guidance to lower-level testing staff.
  • Coordinates testing and inspections activities.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, specifications, and testing standards.
