About The Position

SMSI, LLC is seeking multiple Engineering Technologists of various levels to support our client onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The candidates will support the Electrical Support Team and help develop and implement designs, installation, maintenance, and support of control systems. This work involves process support for all groups in the Directorate as well as some organizations that also support other LANL Divisions. Interaction and coordination with other engineers and technicians on the team as well as close cooperation with other support groups (Facilities Engineering, Construction, Waste, Maintenance, and Safety) is expected.

Requirements

  • 4-8 years of experience is required, differing based off level of position coupled with education and training.
  • Possess the technical understanding and concepts to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Develops resolution to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • A mechanical aptitude and the ability to independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve complex physical or equipment-related problems.
  • The position requires background and pre-employment drug screening for drug-free workplace.
  • Must be able to work onsite at LANL during regular business hours 4-5 days per week.
  • This position will require 24/7 coverage, which could include working a shift/weekend schedule.
  • Must be US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
  • May require the ability to obtain and maintain HRP clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Expert knowledge of electrical engineering work planning and control methods.
  • Expert knowledge of electrical engineering principles and basic technical responsibilities within designated discipline.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards and guides.
  • Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the electrical engineering discipline.
  • Active or recently inactive Q clearance preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Electrical Support Team and help develop and implement designs, installation, maintenance, and support of control systems.
  • Provide process support for all groups in the Directorate as well as some organizations that also support other LANL Divisions.
  • Interact and coordinate with other engineers and technicians on the team.
  • Cooperate closely with other support groups (Facilities Engineering, Construction, Waste, Maintenance, and Safety).
  • Plan, coordinate, and prepare electrical equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and recommendations for equipment.
  • Work with engineering staff to prepare and/or carry out changes in electrical design, methods of manufacture/assembly, and drafting techniques/procedures in area of discipline; coordinate corrective actions.
  • Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve complex physical or equipment-related problems.
  • Assume a lead role over other staff or project subgroups for completing specific tasks when delegated.
  • Assist in the on-the-job training of personnel.
