About The Position

OLH Inc. is seeking an experienced mechanical designer to join the W93 Systems Development and Realization group as a checker of design definition. The role requires expertise in 3D computer-aided design (CAD), hardware design and fabrication, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and engineering concepts. The successful candidate may guide diverse teams through design iterations to address potential engineering defects and may mentor junior staff in models-based definition (MBD) and GD&T. Work is expected to produce expert results with little direction and involves developing technical solutions to complex or unique problems using ingenuity, creativity, and independence. The position supports the W93/Mk7 Systems Development and Realization Group, which defines, develops, and fields a warhead system for a new Navy submarine-launched ballistic missile program. The group works with DoD/Navy SSP and DoE/NNSA customers, Sandia National Laboratories, Lockheed Martin Space, and production agencies across the National Security Enterprise to define requirements and support design, qualification, and realization.

Requirements

  • Active Q clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Science, Math, or a related field from an accredited institution, plus 10 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical computer-aided design (CAD).
  • Experience with mechanical CAD, manufacturing, inspection, assembly, and testing.
  • Experience checking Creo models and drawings for form, fit, and function and models-based definition (MBD).
  • Experience with tolerance and stack analyses and compliance with current design standards.
  • Proven mechanical design experience ensuring product definition meets requirements and supports producibility.
  • Knowledge and experience with MBD, including recommending best practices or improvement methods while maintaining applicable standards.
  • Experience with Creo 3D CAD software, PDMLink Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis software.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14 standards, especially Y14.5-2009 and Y14.41 MBD.
  • Experience developing and interpreting 3D CAD model standards, practices, and procedures for communicating design intent within and across National Security Enterprise organizations.
  • Knowledge of hardware fabrication, inspection, and assembly processes.
  • Experience with weapon-system configuration-management workflows for authorization, review, release, and distribution of models, drawings, specifications, and related product definition.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks for varied customers.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience building constructive, cooperative working relationships and supporting teams of engineers, physicists, scientists, technologists, and technicians.
  • Experience in draft/design work in both weapons and non-weapons arenas.
  • Previous model/drawing checking experience in the Nuclear Security Enterprise.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Check design definition, including Creo models and drawings, for form, fit, and function and for compliance with MBD practices.
  • Conduct tolerance and stack analyses and verify compliance with current design standards.
  • Ensure product definition meets requirements and design intent and supports producibility while reducing rejected products.
  • Recommend MBD best practices and methods of improvement while maintaining compliance with NNSA, LANL, and industry standards.
  • Lead reviews for design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
  • Work across multiple tasks and customers to ensure product definition meets requirements and design intent.
  • Guide teams through design iterations to address potential engineering defects.
  • Mentor junior staff on models-based definition and GD&T.
  • Support development and implementation of organizational design and drafting standards.
