Program administration includes promoting program quality and relevance through continual evaluation and revision of learning objectives, course outlines, and teaching strategies to ascertain they are appropriate and relevant, as well as the management of resources. Department chairs at Central Carolina Community College also serve as faculty who facilitate transformative lifelong learning. This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required. This position requires face to face teaching.

Requirements

Associate degree in a Electronics Engineering Technology, Lasers and Photonics, or related engineering field
Three years of related industry experience

Responsibilities

Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and support faculty.
Determine faculty meet and maintain credentialing requirements.
Conduct annual performance appraisals for departmental personnel.
Promote professional development to ensure faculty stay current in their discipline and develop new skills.
Conduct regular departmental meetings and distribute information as appropriate.
Collaboratively evaluate departmental needs for program review, planning, and budgeting purposes.
Oversee departmental course schedule and faculty assignments with a focus on student demand.
Prepare annual departmental budget requests, incorporating needs assessment and estimated expenses.
Monitor departmental budget throughout the fiscal year, communicating allocations, transferring funds as necessary, and alerting your supervisor to any concerns.
Update academic dean and associate vice president, as applicable, regarding departmental concerns.
Ensure the department maintains accurate records and submits timely reports and contracts.
Strengthen existing partnerships and cultivate new relationships with business, economic development organizations, and workforce partners in manufacturing and engineering.
Collaborate with employers to identify workforce needs and translate those needs into curriculum, credentials, apprenticeships, internships, work-based learning opportunities, and other educational initiatives.
Represent the college with industry partners and serve as an ambassador for departmental programs within the community.
Provide strategic leadership for each program's Business and Industry Leadership Team (BILT) or advisory board by engaging employers in curriculum review, workforce planning, equipment recommendations, emerging technologies, and program improvement.
Ensure BILTs and advisory boards meet regularly, document recommendations, and incorporate employer feedback into program planning and continuous improvement.
Ensure program learning outcomes and student learning outcomes are developed and updated as needed for each program and all courses in the department.
Ensure quality and consistent instruction.
Coordinate the administration of all proficiency exams.
Oversee the evaluation and selection of course materials, and prepare and submit textbook orders to the bookstore manager, as applicable.
Design, implement, and maintain an effective student, faculty, and staff recruitment plan for all programs.
Oversee the planning and execution of relevant career community events in conjunction with other stakeholders.
Design and implement a plan for improving and tracking student retention for all curricula within the department.
Ensure outcomes and assessments review for all programs within the department is completed in a timely manner.
Oversee the selection and maintain an inventory of all departmental equipment, materials, and supplies.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure course offerings coincide with student needs.
Collaborate with college stakeholders to plan and implement activities with high school and four-year partners, as applicable.
Collaborate with appropriate Continuing Education personnel on the development of credit and non-credit courses, creation of course outlines, and assignment of faculty as needed.
Collaborate with the library to ensure that an adequate quantity of up-to-date library materials are available.
Collaborate with Continuing Education and Workforce Development to strengthen pathways between non-credit workforce training, short-term credentials, certificates, diplomas, apprenticeships, and degree programs.
Identify opportunities to expand stackable credentials that support lifelong learning and workforce advancement.
Provide strategic leadership for program development to meet current and future demand including employer engagement, student recruitment, and new program growth.
Embrace the institutional goals of Central Carolina Community College by engaging students as full partners in the learning process, removing barriers to student progression in courses, and supporting and assisting students in achieving their educational and career goals.
Use student learning outcomes to create a variety of activities, assignments, and assessments that ensure curriculum goals are met.
Create a dynamic instructional environment that promotes a positive, interactive, and inclusive learning experience for all students.
Maintain a Blackboard course with a syllabus and gradebook for each class.
Grade all assignments in a timely manner and ensure that all grades are reported within the 10-day college grading policy.
Provide personalized and constructive feedback on student assignments by recognizing what students did well and identifying attainable improvements for future work.
Respond to all student communication within two business days.
Report attendance weekly.
Utilize the early alert system to communicate needs for timely intervention, resources, and additional student support.
Facilitate student learning for instructional loads of 6-12 contact hours per semester.
Actively support the college’s vision to be the college of choice for students, workforce partners, community leaders, and employees.
Stay current in your discipline and renew industry credentials, as needed.
Assist the department with academic advising, as needed.
Maintain program and/or college accreditation standards.
Actively engage with college committees as appointed.
Participate in advisory board meetings as requested.
Celebrate student achievement at graduation ceremonies and other recognitions.
Engage in relevant professional development each year.
Attend departmental, divisional, and collegewide meetings.
Maintain a weekly schedule of 35 hours on campus, including 5 required office hours.
Assume other duties as assigned.
