About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking an Engineering Technician – Level 1 or Level 2 to join their collaborative teams in Promontory, UT. This position is 100% onsite. The candidate will be responsible for preparing, testing, and evaluating a wide variety of raw materials to support laboratory testing and quality assurance processes, ensuring material integrity, regulatory compliance, and accurate test results. The quality lab performs analyses and tests of raw materials, packaging materials, and/or finished products from manufacturing to ensure quality standards and compliance to customer and regulatory requirements, and tolerance specifications for the chemical or physical properties. This role involves performing qualitative tests or qualitative assays on samples, and maintenance and certification of test instruments and apparatus. The candidate will also prepare and monitor quality statistics and reports, review production records for conformance to procedures, and conduct non-conformance tests of manufactured, packaged, or tested product. Engineering Technicians perform a variety of chemical and physical analyses on various inert and energetic materials to assess acceptability against defined requirements, utilizing traditional mechanical evaluations and advanced analytical chemistry techniques. Successful candidates will work with experienced chemists and technicians operating analytical test equipment including chromatographic and spectroscopic instrumentation, viscometers, titrators, particle size analyzers, mechanical testing instrumentation, and various other instruments and laboratory equipment. The fast-paced laboratory environment offers the flexibility to learn new skill sets while developing expertise in specific lab areas. This position will work a 4/10 schedule, with every Friday off.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 1).
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 2). Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • No clearance required to start.
  • Experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or warehouse environment, especially with chemical handling, is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures precisely.
  • Familiarity with MSDS/SDS and hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Comfortable working in environments that may involve exposure to chemicals, noise, and temperature variations.
  • Use of PPE including gloves, safety glasses, lab smocks, and ESD safety shoes is required.
  • Basic computer and software competencies are required.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work swing shifts and weekends when required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with adhesives in engineering, manufacturing, or lab setting.
  • Experience with use of scientific instrumentation and equipment.
  • Experience with handling and disposal of energetic materials.

Responsibilities

  • Collect representative samples in accordance with engineering, regulatory, and laboratory requirements.
  • Verify material identification and ensure traceability during the fabrication and testing process.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of tools, areas, and equipment.
  • Ensure all materials are properly labeled and stored following engineering and planning requirements.
  • Communicate any inconsistencies, deviations, or safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Adhere to safety and hygiene standards, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain laboratory infrastructure including sample preparation and equipment set-ups and breakdown.
  • Maintain neat and accurate records to company standards.
  • Work with LIMS, Quality, and inventory databases to track material and test results.
  • Maintain a high standard of operational discipline to support clean, safe, and efficient operations.
