Tristar•Crane, IN

About The Position

TRISTAR is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to provide expert technical support and leadership on complex projects involving electronics, electronic countermeasure systems, RF and microwave systems, and environmental factors affecting electronic systems. The technician independently plans and completes complex technical projects or studies, applies judgment and creativity to resolve design, operational, testing, and troubleshooting problems, and reviews work for compliance with project objectives. The role may include supervising, training, or directing lower-level technicians and advising on unusual technical problems, operational issues, or policy matters. The position supports the design, specification, setup, experimentation, testing, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and operation of complex equipment, systems, components, instrumentation, and test equipment. It coordinates with engineers, contract personnel, and system users to resolve issues and ensure compatibility; diagnoses problems and works with engineers on root causes and corrective actions across system, circuit card assembly, component, analog, digital, RF, power, and interface levels. The technician also provides subject-matter expertise during test events, attends planning and coordination meetings, and recommends improvements to test-event efficiency, readiness, safety, and execution. UAV piloting and/or tactical vehicle driving may be required. The role involves travel up to 50%, field environments, inclement weather, and lifting more than 20 pounds as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, vocational degree, GED certificate, or equivalent technical training.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain a favorable Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Seven years of related professional experience in electronics technology, testing, measurement, troubleshooting, or repair of electronic countermeasure systems.
  • Military technical school or specialty experience associated with electronic countermeasures, RF, microwave, electronics, or related systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in common and complex technician-level tasks and a strong understanding of production and interfacing processes.
  • At least three years as an engineering technician with electrical design support and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience using RF and general test equipment, including signal sources, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, and related instrumentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware at the system, circuit card assembly, component, analog, digital, RF, power, and interface levels.
  • Ability to read and work from schematics, circuit card assembly layouts, test requirements, and written or oral technical direction.
  • IPC solder certification and demonstrated ability to rework surface-mount components at the board level.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, support multiple tasks, and communicate effectively with engineers, test teams, and customers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Review work for compliance with project objectives and advise on unusual technical, operational, or policy matters.
  • Supervise, train, or provide direction to lower-level technicians as needed.
  • Prepare or support designs, specifications, test setups, experiments, and procedures for complex equipment, systems, components, and instrumentation.
  • Plan approaches to design and test problems and recommend improved design or test techniques.
  • Coordinate with engineers, contract personnel, and system users to resolve issues and ensure system compatibility.
  • Design and coordinate test setups and experiments to evaluate design feasibility, improve equipment performance, and support special test equipment or pilot models.
  • Test, troubleshoot, repair, install, and support RF systems, electronic countermeasure systems, cables, modules, assemblies, circuit card assemblies, and related test equipment.
  • Diagnose system problems and work with engineers to identify root causes and corrective actions at system, circuit card assembly, component, analog, digital, RF, power circuitry, and interface levels.
  • Provide technical support during test events and serve as a subject-matter expert on test equipment and material.
  • Attend planning meetings, integrated product team meetings, scheduling sessions, test briefs, and related coordination meetings.
