About The Position

The company is looking for an Engineering Technician based in the North West, with potential travel within the UK. This role reports to the Assistant Manager and involves close daily contact with the Area Manager. The position requires working closely with Operations staff, supporting them during servicing, guiding them through breakdowns, and transferring skills for routine maintenance to focus on technical work. Collaboration with other members of the Engineering, Operations, and Projects teams is essential to achieve departmental objectives. The department's goal is to maximize electrical production and reduce operational costs by taking responsibility for the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment, particularly generating sets and gas processing plant, to ensure maximum safe electrical output. The company aims to develop a sustainable and profitable business based on gas utilization and generator supply, emphasizing clean, safe, and well-run sites that meet performance targets with full written records.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Electrical and Mechanical maintenance.
  • Recognised level in an Electrical skill or relevant experience in the field.
  • Experience with electric control systems 12v DC – 415v AC 30ø
  • Fault location, diagnosis and rectification.
  • Computer literate.
  • Hold full UK driver’s licence.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Landfill Gas, specialist fuels and/or on generators is advantageous.
  • 18th Edition, Gassafe and HV testing certifications (increase in payment upon experience).

Responsibilities

  • Day to day operations and maintenance including fault diagnosis, location and rectification.
  • Planned maintenance and breakdown response on generator sets with minimum outages.
  • Continuous enhancement of skills and knowledge, and that of the technicians working with you.
  • Seeking guidance and advice from the Engineering and Management team.
  • Avoiding unnecessary expenditure by using skills and tools available within the company.
  • Ensuring a stock of basic spare parts is replenished and always available.
  • Commitment to Health, Safety Quality and Environmental practices, following all procedures and using own judgment.
  • Reducing the company’s reliance on contractors wherever economically prudent.
  • Compliance and implementation of company protection procedures with a proactive approach to maintaining, monitoring, reporting and auditing.
  • Managing time and travel effectively, staying away from home where appropriate.
  • Compliance with all legislation.
  • Utilisation and compliance of the company’s operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, record keeping and stock control systems.
  • Execution of all generator maintenance and the use of Operations staff to undertake minor maintenance on generators.
  • Maintenance and repair of all mechanical and electrical plant, including pumps and motors at all facilities.
  • Maintenance and inspection of LV electrical equipment subject to training and competency.
  • Operation of HV switchgear subject to training and competency.
  • Commissioning of new build including all associated equipment.
  • Incorporation of new sites into Operations.
  • Work on and monitoring of the gasfield to maintain the fuel source for the generators.
  • Repair and maintenance of generators.
  • Training, support and supervision of Operations Technicians to undertake minor maintenance and simple fault finding.
  • Provide 24-hour emergency call out cover to respond to generator set failures when necessary.
  • Ordering of spares and control of stock.
  • Maintaining a clean, well-run site at all times.
  • Contractor supervision.
  • Implementation of HSQE systems.
  • Commitment to training to enhance knowledge and skills with regard to environmental protection and materials.
  • Compliance and implementation of company environmental protection procedures with a proactive approach to maintaining, monitoring, reporting and auditing, and updating company systems.
  • Conduct air emissions monitoring.
  • Deal directly with spillages using pollution prevention equipment.
  • Compilation and completion of outstanding works raised by site audits.
  • Ensure company vehicles in your care are maintained to manufacturer’s specification and in keeping with policy.
  • Control of generator operating costs.
  • Deal directly with environmental spillages using pollution prevention equipment and materials.
  • Any reasonable task required by the management in the exercising of its goals.

  • OTE c£50,000 which includes basic salary of £41,131
  • on call rota payment of c.£2k
  • Overtime Payment c.£2k
  • Certification payment £3500 (increasing up to £5250 upon experience) for 18th Edition, Gassafe and HV testing
