About The Position

The Engineering Technician supports, maintains, and improves automated production equipment and systems to enable safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing. The role troubleshoots automation hardware and software, performs preventive and corrective maintenance, supports production operations, and assists with automation upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives. The position is located in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, with a 6 a.m.–6 p.m. rotating shift schedule. The technician also leads a team of automation technicians on their shift.

Requirements

Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, or Industrial Technology.
At least 5 years of experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment in a production environment.
Hands-on experience with sensors, pneumatics, motors, drives, and servo systems.
Hands-on experience with industrial HMIs and automation hardware.
Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and control diagrams.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
Ability to work independently under production pressure.
Good communication and documentation skills.
Team-oriented approach and a continuous improvement mindset.
Comfort working with engineering and production teams.

Nice To Haves

Experience with robotics such as Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, or similar.
Exposure to vision systems and automated inspection.
Experience in electronics, SMT, medical device, automotive, or high-volume manufacturing.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Basic understanding of industrial networking, such as EtherNet/IP or Profinet.

Responsibilities

Maintain and troubleshoot automated production equipment, including robots, conveyors, vision systems, and automated assembly and test stations.
Respond to equipment downtime, diagnose root causes, and restore production.
Support daily production operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
Verify the proper operation of safety interlocks, light curtains, emergency stops, and guarding.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automation equipment.
Identify recurring issues and recommend permanent corrective actions.
Retrieve spare parts and assist with equipment documentation.
Support automation upgrades, retrofits, and new equipment installations.
Assist engineering with process improvements, cycle-time reduction, and yield-improvement projects.
Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive action activities.
Document repairs, changes, and maintenance activities.
Assist in creating work instructions, maintenance procedures, and equipment manuals.
Support training of operators and maintenance personnel on automated systems.
Lead a team of automation technicians on the shift.
