About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking an Engineering Technician – Level 2 or Level 3 located in Promontory, UT. This role involves performing a variety of support functions to create and control procedures/electronic shop instructions and manage/edit databases for the Explosives and Pyrotechnics and/or Propellant departments within Propulsion Systems Innovation (PSI) Works. The Engineering Technician will facilitate communication between Laboratory, Engineering, and Test Research Operations (TRO) by understanding the functions and roles of each group. The Engineering Technician will use their intimate understanding of laboratory, test, and manufacturing operations to translate engineering requirements and test plans into easy to understand, step by step instructions. The Engineering Technician provides the critical service of transforming complex requirements into simple and clear shop floor instructions. You will acquire subject knowledge by engaging technicians, observing lab/production methods, referring to technical specifications, and engineering drawings. You will update and proofread customer reports with the most recent information from test results. Additionally, you will update and maintain databases with the most recent test results. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 2)
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 3)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to become an expert in the company's Electronic Shop Floor work instruction software (ESI) and document/engineering Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software
  • Knowledge of laboratory and manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles as well as the ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering documentation such as test plans, engineering drawings, and schematic diagrams
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software products
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience writing planning and ESI shop floor instructions
  • Experience in Aerospace or Defense manufacturing and laboratory environments
  • Experience working in research and development, laboratory, TRO, operations, operations management, or Process/Manufacturing Engineering
  • Hands-on experience with energetics, ideally, including work with airbags
  • Wet-lab experience
  • Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional team environments

Responsibilities

  • Authoring and maintenance of Electronic Shop Floor (ESI) instructions and support documents
  • Convert shop floor work instructions from various platforms (paper systems) to Electronic Shop Floor Work Instruction System
  • Create/Update and manage laboratory work instructions (LWI) in accordance with program and company requirements
  • Create/update simple sketches and/or process flows used in work instructions
  • Coordinates with a multifunctional team and customers for review and approval of electronic work instructions
  • Manages and incorporates parts effectivity and engineering revisions into shop instructions
  • Manages Engineering change control and configuration management methods for both parts and processes
  • Assists scientists with test plan authoring and tabletop reviews
  • Updates and manages databases of aging and surveillance test results for various programs
  • Seeks process and planning feedback from lab technicians and operations, and incorporates into planning where possible
  • Understands the change control process and has the ability to assist in the creation of CR’s/OCR’s and subsequent implementation into planning
