North Wind Services (NWS) is seeking individuals to support national security within science, technology, and engineering fields as part of their supplemental labor team at federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. This position specifically supports the National Ignition Facility (NIF), the world’s largest and most energetic laser facility. The role involves installation, maintenance, operation, and modification of complex NIF Facility and Utility Systems, requiring challenging technical skills. Successful candidates will be versatile, broad-based Engineering Technicians skilled in hands-on maintenance, operations, and modifications for specialized air systems, pressurized gas systems, facility systems, typical and non-typical plant equipment, research equipment, beampath, and related components. The work will be performed within the NIF Facility and Infrastructure Systems (FInS) Logistics Work Center in a secured facility, potentially including clean rooms, elevated work platforms, confined spaces, and controlled radiological areas. Reporting to the FInS Logistics Field Supervisor, the role involves general supervision and interaction with clients, supervisors, and other technical personnel. As NIF is a 24/7 operational facility, flexibility for overtime, shift work, and/or weekends is required, potentially including alternate schedules like 4/10s or 12-hour shifts. Passing various on-site training modules is also a requirement.
