About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking an Engineering Technician – Level 1 to join their team in Charlotte, NC. This position is 100% onsite. SYNOPTICS, an organization within Northrop Grumman, is a leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials for laser systems. The Charlotte facility has over 60 years of experience in the laser industry, known for high-quality products and timely deliveries. The facility grows solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals and has full optical fabrication capabilities. The Engineering Technician will provide technical support to engineers, ensure smooth 24/7 operation in the Thin Film Coating department, and support the Equipment Engineer in equipment design, fabrication, and modification.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years additional education and/or related experience.
Understanding of drawings, BOMs, and prints associated with semi-complex mechanical assembly.
Familiarity with PLCs and PC control systems.
Experience with PLC/ladder control programming.
Attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, clear written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in collaborative team environment.
Able to apply technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts.
Ability to determine/identify sequence of operations or actions to be taken.

Associate in Applied Sciences (AAS)

Responsibilities

Performs preventative maintenance on critical equipment and tooling in TFC.
Maintain and/or modify existing coating chambers and chamber components.
Work on long-term projects such as improvement of existing and/or obsolete electrical/PLC components.
Document parts drawings, tooling, and check sheets.
Troubleshoots controls, instruments, and mechanical systems.
Some heavy lifting is expected; team lift more than 50lbs.
